If the shoot furious turns out to be something close to the production of its predecessor, Taylor-Joy, her co-stars and the crew must be prepared to get their hands dirty and go further. But it is important to remember that, while performing fury road was loaded, the end product turned out to be a modern classic and one of the best action movies of all time.
Furiosa is not Mad Max: Fury Road 2
At a press conference for the film earlier this year, Miller commented that furiousThe story of will take place over “many years” instead of fury road‘s, which was established over the course of a few days. Most of Miller’s comments thus far have indicated that she is not looking to outdo fury road but rather to make a new style of film that stands on its own, telling the Los Angeles Times, “You’re not looking for more, you’re looking for the best it can be. You’re definitely looking to not repeat what you just did and you’re looking to make it, if you will, exceptionally familiar. It has to be something of its own.”
It’s encouraging to hear that Miller isn’t looking to just make a bigger, badder version of fury roadBut it’s no surprise from a director who has often sought to experiment with each new installment in the franchise. As he told the LA Times, his condition to do Mad Max sequels has always been about not just doing more of the same.
“After making the first Mad Max so many years ago, I didn’t want to do another Mad Max movie,” Miller said. “Then I did a second one. And for me personally, it was on the condition that I could overcome all the mistakes that I thought I learned from the first movie. So the second movie had to be different from the first. So it was a different movie in tone and style and everything. The only thing they really had in common was that he was Mel Gibson. The third movie, same thing, and that was thunder dome. They had to be different.”
Miller faced a similar challenge when he set out to work on fury road almost 30 years after the 1985 release Mad Max Beyond Thunderdomea film that is remarkably different in tone and setting from its more beloved predecessors.
“I remember in fury road, that had to be different again. People were like, ‘Oh, can you do it like road warrior? road warrior it was really the best of those movies,’” the director said of the pressure to only reproduce his greatest hits. “And I thought, ‘Well, wait a minute, that was 30 years ago. Everything has changed. If we just went back and I did a new version of that movie, we’d be fools.’”
