Horror Games Showcase EEK3 Will Show Off Terrifying Indies – Watch Here

EEK3 marks the third annual exhibition of haunted ps1, a community dedicated to showcasing indie horror games that have a style that dates back to the PS1 era. Get ready for a lot of low-poly models and jagged aliases, because that’s exactly what this stream is gearing up to show off.

This year’s submissions may have wrapped up, but that doesn’t make this announcement any less impressive!

The showcase call for submissions was announced via YouTube in March, running until May 31, and now it’s just a matter of hours before it’s revealed with the selected games. The most exciting thing about this tidy, niche showcase is the lack of leaks; We really have no idea what games will be shown, which has us gearing up for an exciting Friday night of indie reveals.

Last year’s EEK3 showcase was incredibly haunted, and some of the titles on display might have been familiar to Haunted PS1 fans as part of the 2021 Haunted PS1 demo disc from a few months earlier. We’ve yet to see the demo disc for 2022, but that’s another thing to look forward to, and hopefully we’ll get to try some of the games shown at this year’s EEK3. Although, if you’re unfamiliar, you’re probably wondering what the Haunted PS1 demo disc is.

Well, Haunted PS1, the community that hosts EEK3, are also the same people behind the Haunted PS1 demo disc. For starters, it’s not a disc and it doesn’t host any PS1 titles either. The demo disc is, in fact, a downloadable collection of indie horror game demos and playable experiences. It’s also completely free!

Even if you’re not the biggest horror fan, there are also a lovely non-horror indie or two to try out; The 2021 disc is really on top of the super colorful 3D platformer Toree, which has even received a sequel since then!

If the wait for the EEK3 showcase now has you itching to get into a new indie, you can still check out 2021’s Haunted PS1 demo disc. Some of the best picks from last year’s disc personally had to be Agony of a Dying MMO. , which features a somewhat chaotic ‘the world is ending’ scenario that I won’t spoil, and An Outcry, a still-in-development narrative horror game with a pixel-art style that I’m really in love with.

Some of the highlights from the 2021 EEK3 showcase are also worth mentioning. The Winds of Basidia, which is currently still in development, was announced. This particular game follows The Snow of Basidia, and if you think The Legend of Zelda would make a good horror game, both games are perfect for you. I should also point out that The Winds of Basidia is specifically inspired by the wing cap from Super Mario 64!

There was also Derelikt, who stood out among the list. When a creature is found in orbit around Saturn, your character must investigate. It’s especially inspired by Alien Resurrection and Doom 3, as well as cosmic horror, and initially started out as a research project on the “look of PS1” before, thankfully, becoming the game it is now. It’s still in development, but hopefully, yes developer’s twitter there is something to happen, soon we will see more of Derelikt.

Last but not least, this wouldn’t be an indie horror showcase harking back to the old days of horror without a game directly inspired by Silent Hill. Meet Hollowsk 1999 3D. Hollowsk is set in another lo-fi town that’s shrouded in fog, so much so that you’d probably think it’s Silent Hill at first glance. In this familiar town, you are actually an outsider just trying to deliver a letter… but of course something went wrong. The demo is available on Steam right now!

If the contents of last year’s showcase are anything to go by, EEK3 2022 will be just as great; Be prepared for lots of industrial noises and bloodcurdling screams though!

The EEK3 showcase is scheduled to kick off today, Friday the 26th, at 3pm PST / 5pm CT / 6pm ET / 11pm BST and 12am UTC. You’ll be able to tune into the spooky event via Haunted PS1’s YouTube.
