Vishal Bhardwaj brings his trademark dark thriller genre to Netflix with Khufiya, his upcoming film starring Tabu and Ali Fazal, among others. The first sneak peek of the film was released by the OTT streaming platform on Monday as part of its Film Day event in Mumbai. The 47-second teaser reveals absolutely nothing about the movie’s plot and had fans asking a lot of questions. Also read: Vishal Bhardwaj will get Khufiya with Tabu and Ali Fazal

The teaser, set to a spooky and creepy background score, begins with Tabu staring off into the distance. This is followed by a montage of the appearance of several other characters from the film, including Ali Fazal, Wamiqa Gabbi, Azmeri Haque Badhon, and Ashish Vidyarthi. Ali, in a brief two-second on-screen appearance, is seen laughing as someone (apparently Tabu) stands in the background. The preview ends with a blurry shot of Tabu lighting a cigarette. There are no lines of dialogue in the teaser.

The intriguing trailer raised more questions among fans than it answered. “It’s amazing that the teaser doesn’t provide anything about the plot and still leaves you emotional,” one fan wrote. Another commented: “Ali Fazal and Tabu are back in this spy thriller! It would be great to see new content with such great artists and it’s directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.” One fan commented, “This 47-second teaser is much better than the entire ek villain return movie.”
The film, which will be released later this year, is a spy thriller based on the espionage novel Escape to Nowhere by Amar Bhushan. The official synopsis for the film reads: “Krishna Mehra (Tabu) is an operative in the Research and Analysis Wing. She is assigned to track down the mole selling India’s defense secrets, while dealing with her dual identity as spy and lover.” Other details about the film, including the exact release date, have been kept under wraps for now.
