Winchester trailer shows the ‘love story’ between Sam and Dean’s parents

The CW has released a new trailer for the Winchestersa new show that serves as a prequel to the hit series Supernatural. A spin-off that focuses on the “love story” between Sam and Dean’s parents, the Winchesters it stars Drake Rodger as John Winchester and Meg Donnelly as Mary, though their future son Dean (Jensen Ackles) also appears in the trailer. You can watch the new video below ahead of the show’s premiere on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.

The trailer highlights how John and Mary meet and subsequently hunt supernatural beings together. Of course, the trailer also shows off some of the monsters we’ll see in the episodes. The series featuring Ackles as Dean is also a nod to how the character serves as the series’ narrator, telling the story of how his parents met from his perspective. Ideally, The CW hopes the series will feel familiar yet different, offering a new experience to Supernatural fans.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

mocking the Supernatural connections, Ackles previously told TVLine: “To be honest, I said, ‘I don’t know if we can do this,’ and then it took [writer] robby [Thompson] and me sitting there saying, ‘Well, we know we have to do this, and we know we have to do that, but if we just connect those dots with a straight line, that’s not fun. That’s boring. That is a simple story. If we connect those dots in a much crazier and wilder supernatural way, then we have a show. So that’s what we’ve been doing.”

Will the Winchesters be as successful as Supernatural?

Supernatural lasted 15 seasons, and that is going to be difficult for the Winchesters matching, as it would be for any new series. But while this is a new show, the Winchesters can also be seen as an extension of Supernaturalas the new series came about as a result of Ackles wanting to tell more of the Winchesters’ story.

“After Supernatural finished its fifteenth season, we knew it wasn’t over,” Ackles said in a statement when the series was announced. “Because, as we say on the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, right?’ When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew that the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt that my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the idea of him taking us on this journey.”

Along with Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger, the Winchesters stars Binaca Kajlich, Demetria McKinney and Jojo Fleites. The series was developed by Robbie Thompson, Jensen Ackles, and Danneel Ackles. The official synopsis is as follows:

Before Sam and Dean, there was John and Mary. Told from narrator Dean Winchester’s perspective, this is the epic untold love story of how John met Mary, and how they risked everything to not only save her love, but the entire world.

the Winchesters will premiere on The CW on October 11, and for the season, new episodes will be available to stream on The CW app the following day.
